Filed Under SEO | Posted By Sanjay Dhingra | Leave a Comment
How you look at SEO? If you are looking at SEO as a tactical tool, B2B SEO can be quite similar to B2C SEO. But from a strategic point of view, B2B SEO is completely different from normal B2C SEO.
There are a number of B2B challenges that B2B marketers faced in internet word. The fact is that when someone is ready to purchase a cell phone that person moves very quickly to buy the product. There is limited research, quick consideration and purchase is made. Sometimes there are post purchase questions, but all in all purchase is made quickly. Now consider a business looking to purchase software. First of all, there would be more than one person making the purchase decision. Secondly there are users and there are buyers and both are two completely different audiences. The end result is a longer buying time that is nowhere near as linear as the B2C process.
How B2B SEO is different from B2C SEO?
The main difference is that B2B SEO stands for business to business search engine optimization and B2C SEO focuses on consumer. But the SEO fundamentals are not that different in B2B SEO and B2C SEO. To know the difference between the two, let’s look at a couple of fundamental SEO areas.
* Keyword Research
* On-Page Optimization
* Content
Keyword Research for B2B SEO
Keyword activity is the heart of any SEO campaign. The difference between B2B SEO and B2C SEO in terms of keyword research is that keyword selection in B2B takes a longer buying funnel and as a result needs to be more diverse than with a B2C keyword basket. As a result keyword strategies then become more robust. Identifying the proper head, torso and long-tail keywords that will engage the searcher at the longer stages of the buying funnel. Keyword research is a more repeatable process with B2B.
On-Page Optimization for B2B SEO
When you compare on-page optimization options for B2B SEO and B2C SEO, there is not a lot of difference. There are so many ways that you can optimize meta tags, page titles, page headings, your URLs and your page copy. On-page optimization comparison for B2C vs. B2B sites does not differ greatly if at all. The difference is only in the page copy that you provide on your web properties. In the end on-page optimization is very much same for a B2B site and a B2C site.
Content Development for B2B SEO
Content is the key of your websites. Without content that is written for your target audience you are not going to do well in the results of the search engines. B2C sites content focus on a product or complete series of products while content on B2B sites has a very different purpose. A B2C site may in fact have conversion buttons to guide the user to making an actual purchase. Conversions on a B2B site are more in the vein of building a relationship with the users. As result content on B2B sites has different formats like video demos vs. traditional web pages, downloadable case study PDFs vs podcasts etc. Always remember, B2B purchases are not quick decisions. So, the content which you feature on your site needs to help you build a trustworthy relationship with your audience.
