Does the Domain’s Age Really Effect SEO?
Filed Under SEO | Posted By Sanjay Dhingra | Leave a Comment
A person or a company grows with age. Many people don’t believe that the same rule applies for websites and domains. Generally, an older domain will rank better than a newer one of the same theme just because search engines have already spent enough time working through old websites and indexing its content.
On the other hand, a new website is a fresh page – everything is new for search engines to explore. The spiders will take some time to determine the value of a new site. Logically, an older website would have established trust and it has been visited a lot already so it would rank higher. This is just opposite for a new website, which has yet to establish user support and online presence.
But upcoming websites should not lose all hope, because website age is not THE most important thing in terms of SERP. Older doesn’t mean wiser, so long-term success on SERP depend on quality of information provided. An established old site may have been around since very long time, but if it doesn’t contain information that visitors need, it would rank low in search engine results.
The Reality
In the past, a site’s age has been a key factor in determining SERP mainly in comparison of newer websites. But later on, search engines have dropped this criterion. So now age doesn’t seem as important as other factors like traffic, content, and backlinks.
Now if you still have confusion whether site age still matters, the answer is no – at least, not as much as it did before. These days, you just focus on creating great content, attract traffic and build relevant links so search engines will notice you and these things you can achieve with the help of a good SEO firm.
